Landscape photographs typically capture only the natural beauty but can also focus on man-made features or disasters, some think that a landscape must be photographed in horizontal format, not so some lovely old paintings are in the vertical format. On this page there are landscape, seascape and cityscape photos. The editor of the July 2017 edition of "Image" P.S.S.A.'s monthly magazine has stated that Photography is not an art merely the capturing of light, I could not disagree with him more as the choice of focal length, the composition, and the light and shadows in an image by the photographer is an art. Whether exactly "straight" as done in the camera or only slightly manipulated by increasing the vibrancy or contrast it is still art, if we decide to make it look surreal that is also ok sometimes I do wonder if a line should be drawn exactly how much we can do but until then all modification is permitted. To put the record straight the editor of "Image" in the same article states that Photography is an art and is a great believer of manipulation and from reading the article it looks like he considers that the art. Possibly what he meat was that the mere clicking of the shutter does not always produce art.
As I said in my home page there are many people who are unmoved by my style of photography but fortunately there are many, many more who like it and it is for both them and myself that I have cultivated it, so I hope you enjoy the following photos. The banner photo is a view across the Swartkops river showing Carbon Black in the background. There is a place where you can comment on any or all of my work should you wish
Above this is a composite image made up of birds and scenic images
Above is a manipulated photograph of a bridge and boat I can see now why most salons simply have a section called "Scapes" because which category would you put this in. There is another version of this image elsewhere in the site where I have distorted the bridge and below the original photograph and as you can see it is only a single view of one bridge. I made a copy flipped it and merged the two together, made a sky, light and shade on the water, imported a boat from the western cape and put it in between the bridges and widened the whole image. So that is the basics of what has been done, see the larger version.
Hi a reminder again.

Above as I said landscapes do not need to be horizontal they
can be square too this is a digital version of an old photo
shown elsewhere on the site, I was not happy with the
original digitalisation so I made this one and now have the
effect that the original print had showing the foreground
boat standing out from the rest of the photo.. larger version
Above even some of my landscapes are composites, five photographs were used to create this.
Above an unusual city scape Caledon Street showing it as is, this building used to be known as the Perm Building and I had a Photographic Studio and shop in the Perm Arcade between the two cars

Above a panoramic view of the surrounding area of Uitenhage
Above a close-up or cropped portion of a disused jetty at Amsterdamhoek on the Swartkops river it was from near this point that the banner photo was taken
Above an abstract creation. of the area downstream on the Swartkops river behind despatch, this is a previously unpublished version. The original looked nothing like the finished work, the thumbnail below shows the next frame taken that day, the parched grasses gave me the idea but the shrubs were green and there were no shadows or mist on the ground and the sky was light blue. This is an instance where the full size image is worth viewing click here
Above a city-scape showing three wet and cold people in the rain
Above the illusion of smoke blowing past the salt works.
Below using the above image flipped horizontally as a background I created this and call it "There was once animals roaming here".
AT ANY TIME YOU CAN GO TO THE SITEMAP PAGE
Below an unusual view of the well photographed Victoria Tower. Depicting the very top of the tower at night during a rain storm
Move the mouse over the image below for a tip:
This is a cityscape so be if it is
devoid of people
If
landscapes can be just of roaming hills why cant cityscapes
just have a paved square and low rise buildings as a
backdrop. .
Above landscape photos need not all be straight, indeed a lot on this page are not
Above an old favourite :Uitenhage over Gamtoos"
using the sky from Uitenhage and the sand and water from
Gamtoos I created this.
Above brand new only take at the weekend prior to publishing this page our first rain of any worth taken on the 5th of August 2017
Above taken the same day
Above a city and landscape in the vertical format with the subject matter better displayed in this format
The above image is just down river from the disused jetty this one still in active use
Above two definitely straight images of willow dam August 2017 notice the placement of the tree and its reflection in the one photo and the ducks in the other.

manipulated images or try the menu at the side or select
your choice of subject.
Below is a photograph of a dead tree notice it has a good
sky, skies are ferry important to the success of a
photograph
